When most people first meet me, there isn’t much that would betray my true roots. I love mountains, snow, and cold winters. I’m a big Kasey Kahne fan, always have been. I have conquered Mt. Peak and will be climbing Rainier in the summer of 2010. I know how to say “Puyallup” and “Sequim” correctly (now anyway). I’ve even been to the Sumner Daffodil Parade. But then, inevitably, it slips: “Hey y’all, I’m fixin’ to go to the store, need anything?” And the laughter ensues…
Yes, I am from Texas. Born and raised. West Texas originally but Austin for 4 years while attending the Univeristy of Texas (Hook ‘Em!) and Houston for 2 years for physical therapy school at Texas Woman’s University. I moved to the Pacific Northwest in January of 2009 after a long inner debate of whether to settle in Austin, a city which I love dearly, or venture out to something new.
Of course my being from Texas always begs the question “how did you get here?” If you have read the bio of another of our therapists, Jon, you might have noticed we went to the same PT school. When it came time for my first internship during school I decided I wanted to get as far away from Houston, a city I do not dearly love, as possible, and since Jon had returned to Washington and set up his workplace as a clinical site I thought why not. I spent November and December of 2007 here in Washington and fell in love with it. As I mentioned before, I love snow and mountains, two things that are pretty scarce in Texas, and the fact that I can see both of them out of the window of my office something that just can’t be beat. I also loved the people here, and their welcoming attitude played a large part in my decision to return.
Other than mountains and pretty much all of the activities that go along with them, my interests include kayaking, cooking, crafts, and travel. Of course, being from Texas, I live for football, and most of my Saturdays in the fall are spent engrossed in games.
Since this is my bio for work, you would probably like to know a little about me as a therapist. Originally I planned on being a pediatric therapist, so a large part of my background and experience is in that area and I have completed the first of four courses required for a pediatric specialty certification. I am also well prepared for treating adult patients, however, having completed additional course work in manual therapy and worked with the adult population at a PT clinic in Austin during school. I have experience with Kinesiotaping and orthotics fitting, and I am always learning new things and expanding my skills.
